I tried swimming as a work out for the first time since 2012. I sank wonderfully. my breathing felt acrid within a mere 4 laps. The chlorine burned, and so did my muscles. My body did not want to keep going. I was cramping, even. I hated it. I should swim again tomorrow.
Also, I went on a nice long run last week (okay, 5 miles; not a true long run anymore, but still). It was the first time I had run with a running app. My first mile was at a 7:10 pace, and then I ran a 6:20 before leveling out at 6:38 by the end of the 35 minute run (which was actually about 5.3 miles). It was a good run.
I also need to keep lifting more. Ugh! I'll do that tonight.
I'm a pretty normal guy with pretty normal genetics and a pretty normal workout budget, ie, what my wife approves. I want to document fitness for normal folks. No supplements, no expensive subscriptions for food service or classes, no high end equipment. I got here eating doughnuts and pizza, watching sales for my home gym, and working hard to get back in shape after kid #3. Disclaimer: Before doing anything I do, consult a physician or doctor; challenge yourself safely.

Dastardly Dylan
I have a friend. He is pretty buff. He ran CC with me in high school, got faster afterwards, and eventually gave up running to just lift weights and get buff. Earlier this week, I was walking past his house as he was about to leave for the YMCA. He invited me. We did deadlift and squat. I hurt. We did the body weight squat challenge yesterday. I hurt more. All legs so far. Good thing I don't have a football game this weekend due to a wedding.
To catch up, I competed a rugby sparingly this summer, played football this fall (season is still going; we are 5-0), and just did my second tough mudder. Okay, all caught up. Time to go back to the YMCA and cry through another workout with my friend.
